Rachel Smith, a journalism graduate from Tennessee, was crowned Miss USA on Friday night, edging out 50 other aspiring beauty queens. Smith, 21, of Clarksville, graduated from Belmont University and also interned last year for the production company behind "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
In winning the crown, Smith edged out finalists Meagan Yvonne Tandy of California; Cara Renee Gorges of Kansas; Helen Salas of Nevada; and Danielle Lacourse of Rhode Island.

The Miss USA pageant gears up to name a new queen this week in a live televised competition that organizers say will spotlight how reigning titleholder Tara Conner nearly lost her crown and ended up in rehab.

On Thursday's Today show, the reigning Miss USA told Matt Lauer she is confronting her demons — which include alcohol, drugs and a history of abuse in her past. Miss USA Tara Conner checked out of a rehab clinic yesterday and headed back to her Trump Place apartment - clean, sober and ready to reclaim her tiara.

A job is waiting when Tara Conner gets out of rehab. Playboy wants to shoot the troubled Miss USA for its cover. Donald Trump and his execs at the Miss Universe Organization are mulling the offer. Conner, who hails from a small town in Kentucky, was nearly stripped of her title after it was alleged she was having sex with sleazy nightclubbing cads who were giving her cocaine. Said an insider, “If Trump allowed her to do it, it would have to be in good taste.” Which means she’ll keep her top on.

Miss USA, Tara Conner, has apparently been in rehab before. The National Enquirer is reporting that her ass went to rehab as a high school student when she was booted off the cheerleading squad.

With Donald Trump reportedly set to dethrone Tara Conner officially on Tuesday, first runner-up Miss California, Tamiko Nash, will assume the title of Miss USA. At 27, Tamiko will be one of the oldest Miss USA's in the pageant's 55-year history.

Donald Trump has told hard-partying Miss USA Tara Connor to pack her bags and move out of her Trump Plaza apartment.
"She does not live here anymore," a doorman at the posh property tells the New York Post. "She is not allowed on Trump property. I don't think it was her choice, really."

TMZ reports that current Miss USA Tara Conner is without a doubt being dethroned of her title due to "behavioral and personal issues."
The small-town Kentucky girl's issues include substance abuse, failing to make Miss USA promotional appearances, chafing at other obligations and nonstop nightclubbing at Big Apple hot spots.
