Paris Hilton: 'I Want To Leave A Mark On The World' |

Forget ‘Party Girl Paris.‘ The socialite is all grown up and getting serious – or at least that’s what she’d like you to think.

“Before, my life was about having fun, going to parties – it was a fantasy. But when I had time to reflect, I felt empty inside. I want to leave a mark on the world,” Paris told Newsweek.

But before you laugh, the proof may actually lie in the steps she’s taken to adjust her way of life since her release from prison.

She’s cut her hair. She’s moved into a quiet gated community that isn’t easily infiltrated by the paparazzi. She’s cut back on the nightlife. And she’s even changed her phone number.

“There are a lot of bad people in LA,” she added.

In an effort to leave her aforementioned “mark on the world,” Paris is packing her bags and trading Hollywood for a five-day visit to Rwanda, where she will be visiting schools and health care facilities.
As Access Hollywood reported in September, Paris will make the journey with Scott Lazerson of Playing for Good, an organization that helps bring celebrities and charities together.

“I’m scared, yeah. I’ve heard it’s really dangerous. I’ve never been on a trip like this before,” Paris said in the interview with Newsweek.

And while the majority of her trip will be a completely foreign experience for Paris, she will have one familiar companion – a video camera, which she’ll use to chronicle her travels for a documentary.

“I love having everything documented,” she said. “It shows people what everyday life is like for me, how hard I work. There are a lot of misconceptions about me.”

So what’s one of the biggest misconceptions the heiress would like to dispel about herself? Her love life, or as Paris explains it, the lack thereof.

“I’ve been linked to so many guys, but there’s nothing romantic going on at all,” she contends. “I get along better with guys than girls. I trust them more. They don’t get all girly and mean. Girls have drama.”

Since her release from prison, Paris has also gone back to work. She’s currently shooting a film called “Repo! The Genetic Opera” in Toronto, where she plays an heiress with an addiction to plastic surgery. And as it turns out, she used her time behind bars to prepare for the part.

“I was auditioning and practicing in my cell,” she revealed. “I had nothing else to do.”
And through it all, Paris said she thinks people are rooting for her... at least, she hopes so.

“People have seen me go through a lot, and they can relate to that,” she concluded. “I’m a strong person.”
